The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has “disowned a circulating correspondence alleging that the commission approved resolutions of a purported PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting which postponed the party’s Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary.”
The disclaimer was contained in a statement issued Friday in Abuja and signed by the Director, Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi.
INEC said the document, dated November 10, 2025, “did not originate from the office of the secretary to the commission or any of its official communication channels.”
The commission revealed that preliminary investigations “show that the signature of the secretary was forged by ‘unscrupulous elements.’”
Describing the letter as “completely fake,” the commission urged political parties, the media and the general public “to disregard the content in its entirety.”
It noted that the circulation of forged documents “amounts to a serious electoral offence and represents a deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians.”
INEC appealed to those behind such “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities” to “desist immediately in the interest of electoral integrity and national peace.”
It added that it is “working with security agencies to uncover, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators in accordance with the law.”
