The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated he is “open to supporting U.S. President Donald Trump or any other foreign partner willing to help Nigeria combat terrorism.”
Speaking on Monday night during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike affirmed he “welcomes any form of international cooperation that enhances Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts,” noting that such alliances are “common practice among nations.”
The Minister specifically stated: “I have said I will support Trump in providing and supporting Nigeria with technology in fighting against terrorism.”
He further clarified his overall position: “I will support any country that wants to proffer solutions in supporting the Nigerian government in fighting terrorism.”
Wike insisted that terrorism is a “global challenge that demands collaboration across religious and national lines.”
He argued that attention should be directed toward forging effective security partnerships, “rather than politicising delicate matters of religion and national security.”
He stressed that in international cooperation, “When you go to other countries, who asks, ‘Is he a Muslim? Is he a Christian? Is he a non-believer?’ No one does that.”
Wike’s comments came amid the ongoing controversy surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat of possible military action against Nigeria over the alleged persecution of Christians.
